We’ve released an MCP server for Setary, so you can bulk edit your WooCommerce and Shopify products directly from your favorite AI tool, such as ChatGPT or Claude.
Your AI tool never gets access to your store. It talks to Setary instead, which stages the change as a draft in the spreadsheet. You open that draft, check the rows, and click Save Changes yourself.
So you can use AI on your prices, stock levels, SKUs and tags across hundreds of products at once. You still see every row before anything changes. It’s the perfect risk-free way to update a WooCommerce site with AI 🤖☺️
Why Your AI Tool Can’t Edit Your Store Directly
You can rely on an AI tool to pick out the right products. For example, ask for every published product that’s out of stock with backorders turned off, which is a pain to filter for by hand.
However, AI tools are much less reliable about how many products they select. If the filter is slightly wider than you intended, you might change 400 products instead of 40. Your AI tool will still tell you it worked.
So Setary stages the changes instead of saving them. You can see exactly which products are affected and what will change on each one, before anything reaches your store.
How the Setary MCP Connection Works
MCP is the standard way an AI tool talks to an outside service. Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor all support it, and so do most of the newer AI tools.
Your AI tool can do four things through that connection:
- List the WooCommerce and Shopify stores on your Setary account. Your store credentials are never part of that.
- Look up which fields it’s allowed to filter and edit on a store.
- Save a draft of product edits, chosen by product ID, by filter, or from one of your saved views.
- Read back a summary of that draft, including how many products it affects and any warnings.
None of those four writes to your store. Setary gives your AI tool no way to publish.
What You Can Ask Your AI Tool to Bulk Edit
You can ask for anything you’d normally do with Bulk Actions in the spreadsheet. For example:
- “Find every published product that’s out of stock with backorders turned off. Add the restock-needed tag.”
- “Increase the price of everything in the Outdoor collection by 5%.”
- “Swap the old supplier prefix on our SKUs for the new one.”
- “Clear the sale price on every product whose sale has already ended.”
Before it writes the draft, your AI tool checks which fields Setary lets it edit. If you ask for something Setary doesn’t support, it tells you instead of saving half a change.
Reviewing the Draft Before It Goes Live
Your AI tool replies with a count, a short summary and a link. Follow the link and the draft opens in the Setary spreadsheet, with the new values staged against your current ones.
From there, it’s an ordinary Setary edit. Read down the column, change any row by hand, then click Save Changes to send everything to your store. If your AI tool has picked the wrong products, you can clear the draft and ask again.
Drafts work without an AI tool too. You can stage changes in the spreadsheet, save them as a draft, and come back to them when you’ve had a chance to think.
What Setary Stores About Your Products
Setary doesn’t keep a copy of your catalog. A draft stores the instructions only: Which products to change, and what to change on them.
When you open a draft, Setary reads your products live from your store and stages the change against whatever is there now. As a result, a draft you left a week ago still shows you current data. Any product that no longer exists is left out.
Connecting Your AI Tool to Setary
Go to My Account → Settings in Setary and create an MCP password. Copy it into your AI tool’s configuration file along with your username, then restart the tool.
For the full configuration, see how to connect an AI agent to Setary.
Final Thoughts
AI tools will keep getting better at choosing the right products and making the right changes to them. I’d still want to look at the rows before anything changes. You check a staged edit in the spreadsheet the same way you’d check an edit you made yourself.
You can try it on your own catalog with a Setary free trial, with or without an AI tool connected.
