Setary has its own MCP server, so you can connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any other AI tool that supports MCP. You ask for a change in plain English. Your AI tool then builds a draft in Setary.

Your AI tool can’t write anything to your store. It can only save a draft. That draft is applied to your products when you open it in the Setary spreadsheet and save it yourself.

What Your AI Tool Can Do

Your AI tool can do four things in Setary:

  • List the WooCommerce and Shopify stores connected to your account. Your store credentials are never included.
  • Look up which fields it’s allowed to filter and edit on a store, including the columns in your saved views.
  • Save a draft of product edits, chosen by product ID, by filter, or from one of your saved views.
  • Read back the summary of a draft it created: How many products are affected, what changes, and any warnings.

It can’t publish, save or delete anything in your store. It can’t read your store credentials either. If you revoke the MCP password, the connection stops working immediately.

Step One: Create Your MCP Password

Log in to Setary, or create an account first. Then go to My Account → Settings.

That screen shows your MCP URL and your Setary username. Click ‘Create password’. The password is shown once and never again, so copy it straight into your AI tool before you close the screen.

Your normal Setary login is unaffected. The MCP password works only for AI connections.

Step Two: Add Setary to Your AI Tool

Every AI tool that supports MCP keeps a list of its connections in a configuration file. Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor all store it as JSON, and the Model Context Protocol documentation explains where to find that file and how to edit it.

Open the file and add Setary, using the username from the Settings screen and the password you just created:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "setary": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@automattic/mcp-wordpress-remote"],
      "env": {
        "WP_API_URL": "https://setary.com/wp-json/mcp/setary",
        "WP_API_USERNAME": "your Setary username",
        "WP_API_PASSWORD": "your MCP password",
        "OAUTH_ENABLED": "false"
      }
    }
  }
}

If your AI tool calls that outer section something other than mcpServers, keep the setary block exactly as it is and paste it into whichever section your tool uses. You’ll also need Node.js installed, because the connection runs through npx.

Save the file and restart your AI tool. Setary’s four tools then appear in its tool list.

Step Three: Ask for a Change

Describe the change the way you’d describe it to a colleague. For example:

  • “Find every published product that’s out of stock with backorders turned off. Add the restock-needed tag.”
  • “Increase the price of everything in the Outdoor collection by 5%.”
  • “Clear the sale price on every product whose sale has already ended.”

Your AI tool checks which fields it’s allowed to edit, then saves the draft. It replies with the number of products affected, a summary of the change, and a link into Setary.

Step Four: Review the Draft in Setary

Follow the link your AI tool gave you, or click Drafts in the Setary menu to see everything waiting for review.

Opening a draft loads it into the spreadsheet with the new values staged against your current ones, exactly as if you’d made the changes yourself. Read through the rows, edit anything you want to adjust, then click Save Changes to send them to your store. To throw the draft away instead, clear it from the same screen.

A draft stays where it is until you save it or clear it, so you can leave one until you’ve had a proper look.

What Setary Stores

Setary doesn’t keep a copy of your products. A draft stores only the instructions: Which products to change, and what to change on them.

When you open a draft, Setary reads your products live from your store and stages the change against whatever is there now. As a result, a draft you left a week ago still shows you current data. A product that no longer exists is simply left out.

What’s Next?

Drafts aren’t only for AI tools. You can stage changes in the spreadsheet and save them as a draft yourself, then come back to them later.

Either way, the change itself is an ordinary Setary bulk edit, so how to use Bulk Actions explains what you’re looking at when a draft opens. If your AI tool can’t see a store, check that it’s connected under Sites first.
